Quiz/Form capsules are an essential tool for assessing learner knowledge and comprehension within training courses and micro-learnings on Beam. They allow you to create a variety of interactive question types to engage learners and validate their understanding of the course material. In this guide, we'll delve into the creation and configuration of Quiz/Form capsules, exploring their key features and functionalities.

Defining Quiz vs. Normal Form:

The first step in creating a Quiz/Form capsule is to determine whether the form serves as a quiz or a regular form. This distinction is made by selecting the appropriate type when adding a new form capsule:

Option 1: During Capsule Creation

  1. Navigate to the "Capsules" tab in the course creation process.

  2. Click on the "Add Capsule" button.

  3. Select "Form" from the capsule type options.

  4. Choose either "Quiz" or "Normal Form" from the dropdown menu.

Option 2: After Capsule Creation

  1. Open the existing form capsule you want to modify.

  2. Click on the gear icon located in the top right corner of the form designer.

  3. Select either "Quiz" or "Normal Form" from the dropdown menu under "Form Type."

Understanding the Differences:

  • Normal Form:

    • Learner responses are not graded or validated for course progression.
    • It's primarily used to gather information or feedback from learners.
  • Quiz:

    • Learner responses are graded and contribute to their overall course score.
    • You can set a minimum passing score to determine if learners have successfully completed the quiz.
    • It's used to evaluate learner knowledge and comprehension of the course material.

Types of Quiz Questions:

Quiz capsules offer a variety of question types to cater to different assessment needs:

  1. Checklist: Validates the selection of one or more items from a bulleted list.

  2. Dropdown Menu: Presents a list of options and prompts the learner to select one unique answer.

  3. Multiple Choice: Allows learners to select one or more answers from a set of options presented.

  4. Text Response: Asks learners to provide a written answer, either short or long.

  5. Numeric Response: Prompts learners to enter a numerical answer.

Common Question Settings:

  • Mandatory Response: Learners are required to answer the question to proceed to the next capsule.

  • Visual Indicator: A missing configuration element in a capsule or form element is highlighted in red.

Additional Features:

  • Capsule Reordering: Once created, both content and quiz capsules can be dragged and dropped to rearrange their order.

  • Multiple Quizzes: You can create multiple quizzes within a training course to introduce various stages of knowledge validation.

  • Estimated Duration: Each capsule has a field for indicating the approximate time it should take a learner to complete it, applicable to both content and quiz capsules.

  • Total and Remaining Time: By summing the estimated times for each capsule, you can calculate the overall estimated course duration and the remaining time for learners who are in progress but haven't yet completed the course.

By effectively using Quiz/Form capsules, you can create engaging and interactive assessments that reinforce learner understanding and provide valuable insights into their knowledge acquisition.
